THE FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY RESEARCH CENTRE (FARC)

Professional anthropological and archaeological services

The Forensic Anthropology Research Centre (FARC), based at the Department of Anatomy, at the University of Pretoria was established in response to the crisis regarding the recovery, handling, analysis and study of human remains in South Africa.

“We owe respect to the living. To the dead we owe only truth.” ~ Voltaire (1694 – 1772)

It consolidated the efforts of several researchers and consultants in the areas of forensic anthropology and archaeology at the University of Pretoria into a centralised resource with a single identity for all aspects regarding human remains. This consolidated entity hosts the research, service delivery, community service experience and track records of professionals with a cumulative experience of over 40 years.

All activities are conducted under the auspices of Business Enterprises at University of Pretoria (Pty) Ltd (BE at UP), the umbrella consultation company for the University of Pretoria. All legal, administrative and financial aspects of contracts are centrally managed by BE at UP leaving the FARC team unencumbered and focused on service provision.
